LNG Site Consolidation and Tank Seismic Analysis
Design and Analysis
SC Solutions
performed soil consolidation analysis, foundation feasibility and the seismic
study for large LNG/LPG storage tanks to be built in soft coastal soils. The
study included site consolidation numerical analysis, and considered the wick
drains and surcharge to determine the drain spacing, surcharge loading and
surcharge time to achieve a degree of consolidation that would permit the tanks
to be built without the detrimental effects of additional long term settlement.
Long-term foundation settlement under tank operational loads and preliminary
tank seismic studies were also carried out following site consolidation
analysis.
Future work may include the monitoring of the construction settlement, and the calibration of consolidation models to refine and recompute consolidation to determine the construction schedule for removing the surcharge and turning the site over to the tank EPC contractor.
