Dr. Mahantesh Hiremath, VP of SC Solutions was nominated to become 140th President of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on 16 June 2020. His term of office will commence in June 2021.
ASME was founded in 1880 to provide a forum for engineers to discuss the concerns brought by the global rise of industrialization and mechanization. Today, it has over 100,000 members from 140 countries, with offices in the U.S., India, and China. ASME’s mission is to advance engineering for the benefit of humanity.
ASME presidents each devote a very active year toward leading the Society and the profession, grappling with technical and policy challenges facing industry, academia, government, and the public at large.
Amongst the notable past presidents are – George Westinghouse who held more than 400 patents, including a signal American contribution to rail technology: the air brake, and Elmer Sperry, who founded eight manufacturing companies and also held more than 400 patents, including a gyrocompass and a nonmagnetic navigational aid.
Other presidents were well known in their time, though less familiar today. All, however, were leading engineers and contributors to the common good. And they all helped advance the Society’s professional and public service goals.
Dr. Hiremath has over 30 years of industry experience in Space, Energy, Transportation, and Infrastructure. He has the rare distinction in the world to have designed and developed complex systems in multiple different environments – deep underground strategic petroleum reserves, off-shore oil platforms, high-rise buildings, and complex communication geosynchronous satellites.
Dr. Hiremath currently serves as Vice President at SC Solutions in Sunnyvale, California. Prior to that he held important leadership positions at SSL, SpinLaunch, ARES Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and Stellar Solutions. Dr. Hiremath is an Engineering Fellow of ASME and in 2013-2014, served as Technical Advisor to the Science, Space and Technology Committee of the US House of Representatives.
Dr. Hiremath earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Structural Dynamics from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Later, Dr. Hiremath received the Certificate in Systems Engineering from Stanford University.
SC Solutions is very pleased to congratulate Mahantesh on his selection for this very important role at ASME.
