SC Solutions is pleased to welcome Derrick Watkins, PhD., to our team as a Vice-President in our Structural Division.  Dr. Watkins has a proven track record for providing creative technical solutions to complex, multi-disciplinary problems in structural engineering.  Dr. Watkins’ extensive experience is well aligned with SC Solutions’ focus on devising solutions for complex problems in structural and mechanical engineering.  Dr. Watkins has 25 years of experience in the design, analysis, construction, and repair of structures in the following industries: healthcare, hospitality, government, military, life sciences and energy.  His skills include complex finite element analysis, seismic design for extreme earthquake events, design of rotating and vibrating equipment supports and foundations, vibration mitigation, impact/blast, anchorage to concrete, and equipment seismic qualification.

Dr. Watkins has given numerous technical presentations to third party review panels and has successfully defended a variety of projects to the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board (DNFSB), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Energy (DOE) peer review teams.  He is a voting member of the ASCE-4 Seismic Analysis of Safety Related Nuclear Structures Committee and ASCE-43 Seismic Design Criteria for Structures, Systems, and Components in Nuclear Facilities.

Dr Watkins received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University, his M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, and his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Watkins is focused on giving back to the community through volunteer work and in addition to his work with ASCE’s technical committees, he enjoys volunteering on housing, tutoring, and clean water projects, as well as other humanitarian missions.
